The Athanor Letter November 9, 2024 Let’s play a game. Imagine for a moment that you are an Alchemist - one of those mystics spoken of in ancient scrolls and tales, who holds a strange power over the elements, bending nature to their will. It’s a warm, mid-autumn afternoon, and you find yourself in your alchemical laboratory, a room that carries the scent of aged leather and spices, filled with glass stills, metal crucibles, and worn volumes of ancient knowledge stacked in every corner. It’s quiet here, except for the faint hum of fire under a cauldron and the soft clink of cooling metal. After years of practice and dedication, studying the texts and devoting yourself to countless hours of trial and error, you have finally mastered the foundational skill of alchemy: the transmutation of lead into gold. As you look at the dull, gray piece of lead before you, a thought crosses your mind - one that never occurred to you when you were first beginning. How strange it would be to simply throw this lead away, as if it had no value. When you were still new to this art, the lead had seemed like a nuisance, just a lowly, base metal to be discarded. But now, in the silence of your laboratory, you realize how absurd that thinking once was. Why would an Alchemist discard lead, the very material that enables transformation? In that moment, a revelation occurs to you: It’s not about getting rid of lead at all. It’s about knowing what to do with it. Lead, with all its weight and darkness, is not an obstacle but a gift. It is raw potential - dense, heavy, imperfect, yes, but the perfect canvas for transformation. So now, each time you come across lead, you find yourself smiling. You no longer see it as something to eliminate, but as an opportunity to practice your art. You even find yourself searching for more lead, for with every piece, you gain the chance to create more gold. Imagine, now, that your lead is your negative emotions - your frustrations, your doubts, your fears. Many people spend their lives trying to get rid of these feelings, imagining that if they could just be free of anger, free of insecurity, free of grief, then they would find peace. Let me tell you, that's a losing game. But what if, instead of avoiding these emotions, you saw them as the raw material of transmutation? What if, like the Alchemist, you saw each negative feeling as lead - an invitation to refine, transmute, and create something superior? Every doubt, every fear, every frustration every ounce of anger would become a chance to practice this inner alchemy, a process of refining and purifying until, finally, you are left with gold - a profound sense of peace, understanding, and strength that could only have emerged from the weight of that initial emotion. So, with this new mindset, you no longer seek to avoid negative emotions. Instead, you invite them. The goal is not to banish the lead from your life, but to develop the skill to transform it. As you work in your inner laboratory, each transmutation teaches you something new. The lead of anger becomes the gold of warrior spirit, showing you how to fight with balance and discernment in the world. The lead of fear becomes the gold of prudence, revealing an inner wisdom you never knew you had. The lead of envy turns to appreciation, helping you see the beauty in others without feeling lacking yourself. In time, you become an expert in this inner alchemical process, transforming even the heaviest of emotions into the finest treasures. You see the lead for what it is - a necessary catalyst in the alchemical process, a doorway to transformation. And with that realization, you become free. Free to welcome the full spectrum of your emotions, knowing each one holds the potential to be transmuted into something valuable, something golden. And that’s the ultimate irony, isn’t it? What once appeared as something to discard, something unwanted, is now sought after. Each piece of lead, each negative emotion, becomes a chance to deepen your mastery. And with each transformation, life becomes the beautiful experience it's supposed to be. So, the next time you find lead in your life, remember the lesson of the alchemist. Don’t discard it. Don’t wish it away. Instead, bring it into your lab, apply the heat of your awareness, and let it become something extraordinary. This is your practice, your art, and ultimately, your freedom. Now, if you want a complete introduction to Inner Alchemy, my book ‘The Door of Fire’ is the perfect starting point. The Athanor Letter February 22, 2024 You are an immortal Soul temporarily living inside a biological machine. This statement, while true, can lead to a certain degree of 'new age' confusion. In reality, we make the division between ‘Soul’ and ‘biological machine’ in an almost arbitrary way, and this division - which occurs on the mental level at the beginning of the Work - is very useful in order to set us on the path of Awakening. However, this division, while very useful, is still false....

The Athanor Letter August 31, 2024 Alchemical work on yourself is based on two pillars: Self-remembering efforts Transmutation of negative emotions These two practices move hand in hand, and cannot ignore one another. Since I have covered self-remembering extensively in this article, today I will delve into the second point in depth, in the hope of providing you with useful tools to deal with what appears to be the most “painful” part of the job. Let’s start from a fundamental premise:...
